Support
Email support@mochimd.app. I'm the person who makes Mochi.md, and I read every message. I usually reply within two working days.
To help me sort out a problem quickly, please include:
- your macOS version (Apple menu → About This Mac)
- your Mochi.md version (Mochi.md menu → About Mochi.md)
- what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead
- a screenshot, or the .md file if it's something you're happy to share
Getting started
- Open a file: drag a .md file onto Mochi.md, or press ⌘O.
- Open a whole folder: File → Open Folder… (⇧⌘O), or drag a folder onto the window. Your files stay exactly where they are.
- Make Mochi.md your default: turn on "Open Markdown files with Mochi.md by default" in Settings (⌘,).
Handy shortcuts
- ⌘E edit the page you're reading. Changes save automatically.
- ⌘K command palette: jump to any file or command.
- ⌥⌘T pick a theme.
- ⌥⌘D show or hide what changed since you last read the file.
- ⌘F find in the document, ⌘G for the next match.
- ⌘P print, or File → Export as PDF.
Common questions
Why does Mochi.md ask me to choose a folder?
Mac App Store apps run in Apple's sandbox, so they can only open files and folders you've chosen. Choose a folder once and Mochi.md will remember it. If a document's images live in a different folder, Mochi.md will ask before showing them. You can forget those permissions in Settings.
How does "changed since you last read it" work?
Mochi.md keeps a private copy of each file as you last read it, on your Mac only. When the file changes, a banner shows how much changed, and Show Changes highlights it in the page. Mark as Read clears it. You can clear this history, or turn it off, in Settings.
Quick Look previews aren't showing in Finder
Select a .md file in Finder and press Space. If you see plain text instead of a styled preview, open Mochi.md once, then check the extension is turned on:
- macOS 15 or later: System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → Quick Look.
- macOS 13 and 14: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Extensions → Quick Look.
A file changed on disk but the page didn't update
Check that "Reload documents when they change on disk" is on in Settings. Files on network drives or in some cloud-sync folders may not report changes straight away.
How do I hide Mochi the mascot?
Click Mochi to hide it (an Undo button appears briefly), or turn off "Show Mochi in document windows" in Settings.
Will editing mess up my files?
No. Mochi.md saves atomically, keeps each file's encoding and line endings, and never rewrites the parts of a file you didn't touch.
